History of Polka Dot
Polka Dot is a spotted perennial tropical native to South Africa, Madagascar, and South East Asia.
From the Acanthaceae family, Hypoestes is a perennial shrub in the wild that includes over one hundred closely related species. Its name "Hypo," means 'under' and estia” means house, refering to the leaf-like bracts that cover its tiny flowers.
The oringinal species does not have very dramatic colouring. Overtime plant breeders have hybridized the dramatic foliage splash we see today.
